FIRST AVENUE POCKET PARK.

Walthamstow, London Currently under construction

A new walk-through pocket park in Walthamstow which seeks to encourage sociability, urban wildlife and boost local business by providing a flexible space for pop-up events, incorporating existing mature trees, community artwork and complimenting an existing cycle route with new cycle parking.

Pocket Park Key Principles

The park is concieved as the revival of a run-down green patch near the Walthamstow train station. The project seeks to preserve the existing vegetation whilst incorporating new green planters, enhancing sound absorption and acting as barrier between First Avenue and the park area.

It introduces urban seating protected by the vegetation planters, whilst allowing a walk-through concept, key to this busy area.

It incorporates a new space for cycle parking given the increase and importance of cycling as means of transport around the city, locating it on the limits of the park to be easily accessed from the avenue’s cycle lane.

Pop-Ups and Lighting Structures

It’s outline allows, as well, boosting the presence of local businesses creating flexible space for pop-up stands and small events in open air whilst the feature lighting pergola structure creates a strong identity and lights up the area for safety.
